A Coronovirus Update

It’s been a while friends…

A while since we could do what we love the most: live events and weddings, connecting humans to humans face-to-face in interesting spaces where creativity and innovation can flourish.

We regrettably (and quite obviously) won’t be back for Spring 2021, despite the fact that postponing by a year felt like such a very long time when we initially reorganised the dates and updated all of our marketing materials back in March 2020.

We, as the wedding industry, collectively, are not sure when we will be operating again as we once were. Some of our businesses will not recover; the shrewd amongst you will notice that some of our long-standing favourites are already no longer around to serve couples of the future and deliver excellent events as they once did. This is not because their ideas, or products, or teams were not brilliant. It was not because they weren’t wonderful humans, it was purely circumstance bringing about unviability. If you’re a couple reading this, please do not underestimate how much the events and hospitality industries have suffered, the creative industries and freelancers working in the gig economy: it’s some next level bullshit, it really is. If you’re one of us, a ‘supplier’, we feel you, and we’re with you and we can’t wait for it to be better, too, for each and everyone- on both sides of the coin.

Behind all of these businesses are people. People whom have put their heart and soul, many years of training and dedication and bloody hard graft into building a business they are proud of. All of us have been devastated by the impact of this global pandemic. Everyone. Developing, driving and progressing a sustainable and innovative business is difficult at the best of times, never mind when you have to close for a year (or potentially two!) and ‘bouncing back’ couldn’t come sooner, for most of us financially, and for all of our mental health, too. We do this because we love it, and because we’re good at it. Nothing more, nothing less.

With the vaccine rollout ongoing and a glimmer of light at the end of this corona-shaped tunnel, we can only look forwards, armed with the knowledge that behind us is talent, experience and grit, and each other. This, too, shall pass, and when it does, we shall treasure these interactions and these experiences, and other people, all the more- if we’ve got any sense.

There’ll be some guest blogs going up here to fill your boots with whilst we are in lockdown mode. Hopefully, they will not only inspire you, but will connect you with some good people doing great things.

Stay safe, look after yourselves and each other, and hopefully we’ll see you in 2022!

All my love,

Ellie
